What is D.El.Ed (Diploma course in Elementary Education)?

D.El.Ed which is also known as Diploma in Elementary Education. It is a full-time two-year diploma course to train teachers for the primary level and it can be done with distance learning as well as classroom training. There are a total of four semesters throughout the course, that prepare the candidates to work in primary/ upper primary schools of different states within the country. The D.El.Ed course is designed in such a way that it includes internship and practical training along with classroom instructions. It also includes the education practice, principle of child development and the role of the teacher in grooming the students.

Advantages of D.El.Ed.

Diploma in Elementary Education is an undergraduate diploma programme. Students who have successfully completed 10+2 can opt for this programme. It provides enrolled students with skills and knowledge to communicate effectively with students enrolled in elementary school or primary school. D.El.Ed. students are skilled in making learning interactive for children and assess their progression. After completing a D.El.Ed. individuals can opt for a career as a teacher in any primary school or other educational institutions for children.

Types of D.El.Ed

Diploma in Elementary Education, commonly known as D.El.Ed. It is a two year full-time diploma course to train teachers for the primary level. Students can pursue D.El.Ed after completion of 10+2.

D.El.Ed Eligibility

Those colleges which offer D.El.Ed courses have different eligibility criteria. Few colleges offer admission on the basis of a 10+2 score while others conduct their own entrance exams. Those candidates who want to pursue D.El.Ed need to fulfil the following eligibility criteria.

Candidates should have done their 10+2 from a recognized board.
The total marks should be an aggregate of 50 per cent marks or its equivalent at 10+2 level.
The age bar may vary from one state to another state board. However, generally the minimum age criteria is 18 years and maximum age limit is 33 years.
Candidates should have good command over communication skills, creative thinking, patience and have an aptitude to teach.

Note: Those students who have completed their certification Programme in science stream must have 50 per cent or above marks in aggregate

D.El.Ed Admissions

The D.El.Ed admission process consists of an entrance test which is followed by an interview. if candidates clear the entrance examination. Every year, entrance tests are conducted by the state boards for admission to Diploma in Elementary Education. On the basis of entrance exam score and performance of the candidates in the interview, admission to D.El.Ed is granted. Final admission will be granted on the basis for below five phases.

Phase 1- Firstly, candidates need to check their eligibility, If eligible, then they can apply for admission in the state of their choice.

Phase 2- After applying or filling the application form, students get their admit card to appear for the entrance exam.

Phase 3- Appear for the entrance test and qualify it. The selection of candidates will be made on the basis of entrance exam score.

Phase 4- Apart from the entrance examination score, candidates will be called for an interview/ counseling round.

Phase 5- Final admission in D.El.Ed is given based on the entrance test score and performance in the interview/ counseling round.

Scope of D.El.Ed

Right after completion of a Diploma in Elementary Education course, one can work as an elementary level teacher at educational institutions. Apart from that, one can also go for higher education like Bachelor of Education.

D.El.Ed is on a technical note is an elementary course of teacher training. D.El.Ed is somehow similar to education courses such as D.Ed (Diploma in Education), D.T.Ed (Diploma in Teachers education) and one of the most popular courses in teaching . All the above mentioned courses offer similar course work and similar studies for each semester. These courses offer similar opportunities in Jobs and recruitment.

D.El.Ed is a course with two years duration. So, on completion of academic programmes candidates become eligible to be recruited as teachers in elementary schools and educational institutes teaching elementary education. Those aspirants who wish to work as a teacher and that too particularly willing to teach at lower level schools can pursue D.El.Ed for a path towards a brighter future.
